Animal ads and commercials are always such ridiculous examples of appealing to emotion... as if it were designed specifically for Cat lady divorcees.

I will say that I have two wonderful adopted animals, one of which was adopted because the owners had to move to Germany for a job and didn't want to torture the dog on a plane for 20 hours.

The ads are awful and stupid... I am watching something like "Ow, my balls!" and then I have to watch some dog with a missing eyeball and mouth cancer. Seriously, I don't feel guilty. I have two dogs that have the best lives in the world. I moved to a house with a huge yard just for them. They get the best of everything. Some pets are lucky, and some are not, just like humans. It is the luck of the draw for them, and it will never change.

I totally agree. Just DVR'd an episode last night. I'm so disappointed they changed the music. Almost considered changing my channel lineup just to get this show, but not now. What crap.

YESSSS SANDMAN!

I am graphic-novel-geeky enough to have some recommendations: Did you have to read Maus for Challenge of Modernity? If not, read it. Also, Persepolis. Alan Moore's other stuff (league of extraordinary gentlemen, from hell, v for vendetta). Ghost World. Blankets. These'll give you a pretty good foundation and help you decide which direction you want to branch out into if you want to read more... and if not, you've read enough to be able to know why you don't want to branch out. ^_^

We've just started playing Super Mario Galaxy 2! At first I was offended by how simple "girlfriend mode" is, but as you go up in levels, you have more influence in the game. And, as chagrined as I am to admit it, I love collecting the jewels and feeding them to stars.

OK, fair enough - I can imagine NYC being so expensive that even farmers' markets seem like a good deal. Not the case in most of the country - I pay double for every indulgence at the farmers' market compared to the local supermarket. Remember Hamilton's farmers' market? I don't think it was an affordable alternative even to the terrible GU.

No, but I know of them. It's irrelevant, though; the closest Price Chopper to New York is at least fifty miles out. Compare farmers' market prices to what you can find in an NYC supermarket - Key Food, C-Town, D'Agostino, etc. - and you'll find that the prices are very comparable.

And anyway, the greenmarket I go to has corn for 50 cents apiece, or deals like 5 for $2. During the winter I pay $1/lb for onions, potatoes, and carrots. New York apples can be found for $1.50/lb nearly all year long.

This is probably the first time ever I've heard farmers' markets and locally produced food called inexpensive. Ever been to Price Choppa?
